Blake stared out the limousine window as it pulled up at a small airport—a different one from where they landed yesterday.
“Damn it,” Leah mumbled and scooted to the door. “OK, guys. We’ve got a crowd.”
Gabi flinched beside him.
He placed a comforting arm around her shoulder, holding her tight. “Were we followed?”
“Not sure. The company we’re flying with could’ve told a few friends who told a few more friends. It happens all the time.”
She had nothing to worry about. Their security detail would be out there, in front or behind the limo. It wouldn’t take long for them to control the small group of people gathered at the fence leading to the tarmac.
“We’re stopping here?” Alana asked, turning her wide eyes to Mitch. “I thought we were going out for an early dinner.”
“We are,” Leah interrupted. “We’re just going someplace special. I thought it would be a nice surprise.”
“We’re catching another plane?” Alana’s gaze darted around the faces in the limo, and one by one, everyone focused somewhere else—on the floor, out the window, at the ceiling.
“Helicopter, sweetheart,” Mitch answered, his voice lacking the nervousness Blake would’ve expected.
“You knew?” Her voice rose in excitement.
Mitch cleared his throat and shrugged. “Leah mentioned it, but I wasn’t really listening.”
Alana slapped him playfully on the chest, turning her focus out the window to the ocean blue helicopter standing in the middle of the empty tarmac.
“I’m going to hop out and see if they’re ready for us to leave.” Leah opened her door, setting off the screaming fans.
Their security detail moved to stand broad-chested around the vehicle. One of the guards leaned into the open door, offering his hand to Leah, and closing it as soon as she climbed out. Together, they strode to the nearest building and walked in through the automatic glass doors.
“Don’t fret, angel.” Blake kissed Gabi’s hair, inhaling the sweet floral scent. He couldn’t help acknowledging that he enjoyed seeing her like this, needing his guidance and reassurance for once. It chipped away a piece of his self-loathing to finally feel needed instead of needy.
Minutes later, Leah strode back to the limo, opening the door briefly before sliding back in. “They’re ready to go.”
The whoop whoop of propeller blades reiterated her statement, the noise growing faster with every second.
“Let’s get this party started.” Sean scooted along the wall seat, down to Leah. “Lead the way, gorgeous.”
Leah quirked a brow. “One word—inappropriate.”
He grinned back, unapologetic.
“I’ll get out first,” Blake spoke to Gabi, “and you can follow straight after.”
She nodded. The door opened again and they slid along the seat, moving from the quiet interior of the limo to the rush of noise outside. The wind blew, spurred faster by the spin of the rotor blades while the small group of fans began to chant. The cacophony grew as Gabi moved to her feet and Mason came out from behind her.
“Oh, my gosh,” Gabi winced. “This is crazy.”
Crazy, yes. But an everyday occurrence when they toured or travelled together. When they were on a break, Blake, Ryan, and Sean didn’t usually have to deal with paparazzi or rabid fans.
